Blake @ Minneapolis Hyatt [directions]
The Blake tournament is held at the Minneapolis Hyatt on the mall. Huge tournament with teams from all across America. Breaks to triples, long weekend. For sure bring something to do because there will be a lot of downtime. There is NO concession stand as such, so bring food and money. There is a Chipotle nearby and a few places in the skyway are open.
Times
Friday –
Bus leaves from Lakeville South at 7AM.
It’s very hard to predict finishing times for this tournament. The rounds are flighted and it doesn’t take much for the rounds to become delayed. You will be done debating sometime between 7-10PM on Friday. Take a look at the schedule when round 4 is released and call home to plan ride accordingly. The Holidazzle parade is running so maybe your parents want to take that in while you are in round 4.
Saturday –
Bus leaves Lakeville South at 6:30AM.
You will probably be done sometime between 3-6PM on Saturday. Again, hard to predict.
Debating LD will be Sam, Josh, Dylan, and Margaret. (Logan will be at Operation St. Francis with Big Dylan on Saturday.)
Debating in Congress will be Anselmo and Preeya.

MDTA Novice State Tournament
Eagan High School [directions]
This weekend is the season-ending Novice tournament, which is the state championship for novice debaters, sponsored by the Minnesota Debate Teacher’s Association. It will be a big tourney and run over two days. The schedule has been revised to be more efficient. The Eagan parents will have plenty of food for sale.
Times
Friday – 1:45PM bus pickup at Lakeville North; 2PM at Lakeville South. Preeya in charge of making sure North debaters are on the bus.
Round 4 on Friday is scheduled to start at 7PM, so have ride planned for about 8PM. The best plan for Friday is to call for a ride before you start your debate in Round 4 – given the distance between Lakeville and Eagan, that will work out about right.
Saturday – 7:30AM bus departs from Lakeville South
Times here are harder to predict. There are 2 more debates and then the tournament breaks all debaters who have a 4-2 record or better. If you don’t break, then you could go home about Noon. If you break and do very well, you might debate late into the evening — like 7 or 8PM. So best plan is to bring your phone and stay in touch with parents for a ride.
Schedule
Friday –
Round #1 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Round #2 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Dinner 5:00 – 5:30 PM
Round #3 5:30 – 6:30 PM
Round #4 7:00 – 8:00 PM
Saturday –
Round #5 8:30 – 9:30
Round #6 10:00 – 11:00
LD 1st Elimination Rd 11:30 – 12:30
Lunch (LD) 12:30 – 1:30
LD 2nd Elimination Rd 1:30 – 2:30
LD 3rd Elimination Rd 3:00 – 4:00

All Remaining Elimination Rounds will follow Awards in LD

This is an unusual week for our practice schedule. Read carefully so you know what’s up.
EXPERIENCED:
For our experienced debaters, the season is over except for the varsity debaters who will keep debating at Sections and Blake/St. Francis: Josh, Sam, Logan, Dylan, and Margaret. Since the new topic will not be released until Thursday, there will not be varsity debate practice until then. We will have 5 practices to get ready for Blake/St. Francis.
NOVICES:
You will compete at Novice State this weekend. It is a 2-day tournament at Eagan on December 2nd and 3rd. So you do need to come to practice on Tuesday and Thursday and work with Bailee.
SOUTH EXTEMP AND DISCUSSION:
We will meet on Tuesday at 6 in the IMC to get the 2012 speech season organized. (If you are a novice debater, you will work on Debate with Bailee. We will pull you out as needed.) Here is the roster –
Extemp for 2012
Leema John
Jack Ryan
Anselmo Shim
Logan Roberts
Dylan Adelman
Margaret Gadek
Ted Jantscher
Disco for 2012
Blake Black
Cynthia Simba
Jeremy Lund

It was a good weekend for Lakeville debate! Pictured here are Anselmo and Preeya, who — for the second weekend in a row — won 1st and 2nd place in Congressional Debate.
David and Simon both won their semifinal debates, leading to an all Lakeville final round in novice LD. They did not manage to take a good picture after awards, so this is the best of the bunch.
Congrats to these two debaters who were both 5-0 in prelims. [Novice results packet] Joe and Blake lead the JV debaters, both with 3-2 records. [JV results packet]
Dylan was 4-1 in prelims and 3rd speaker as well. He made it to semis where he lost to the eventual runner-up. His two losses were to the runner-up and the tournament champion, so semi-finals is well earned this weekend. Congrats on your first varsity elim round. Sam and Josh were also 4-1 in prelims, but fell short on speaker points. A good weekend for our varsity debaters. [Varsity results packet]

Birds of Prey Invitational
Robbinsdale Cooper [directions] and Armstrong [directions]
Student Congress will be at Cooper High School
Lincoln-Douglas debate will be at Armstrong High School
Times
Depart Lakeville South at 7AM. Bus will first go to Armstrong and then stop at Cooper.
There is NO return bus so you will need a ride home. Awards should be about 4PM so that’s probably a good time to target for a ride. Everybody except Preeya and Anselmo will be picked up at Armstrong HS.
Format – Important
A big last tournament of the year. There are 5 rounds, then the top 4 in each division break to semifinals. Then awards happen, followed by finals. So if it happens that you are in finals, you won’t be done until more like 5:30 or 6PM. Be sure your parents know that’s a possibility as you plan for a ride home.
Varsity: Sam, Josh, Logan, Dylan, Margaret, Leema
JV: Joe, Katie, Blake
Novice: Ted, Umarah, Tyler M., Sawyer, Tyler S., Jesse, David, Claire, Simon
Congress: Preeya, Anselmo
Judges: Round 1 is at 8:30 so if you are there by 8:15 that will be fine.
Bailee Rasmussen
Danni Bayn
Pat Rasmussen
Sarah Heller
Tim Moerke
Carla Cooper
Phil St. Sauver

A good weekend for the Lakeville Debate team at Forest Lake this weekend. Debaters won awards in all divisions of debate. And best of all, enjoyed the luxury of a bus ride home. (Thanks, Devon!)
Anselmo and Preeya were 1st and 2nd in Congressional debate.
Hayden was 3rd in varsity, Joe finished 2nd in JV, Blake 5th in JV, and Ted 3rd in novice. [results packets available]

The Flake Stakes
Forest Lake High School [directions]
Times
Bus to Forest Lake departs at 6:45. Forest Lake is a long trip so 6:45 means that’s when the wheels on the bus start turning. The last two weekends we’ve waited 10 minutes for people to straggle in and that’s just not an option this weekend.
Format
5 rounds and finals just like last weekend.
Return Bus
Devon has organized a return bus — parents will not need to pick you up, the bus will bring you back to school. She will contact you for paying for a share of this bus.
